    My folks live at the Mornington Peninsula (eg free accommodation 🙂) so very familiar with many of those roads. Thinking about it, I rarely take the motorbike there unless it is to catch the ferry to Queenscliff. That way I avoid the Geelong freeway and enjoy some scenic riding instead... we've done that for the last two Tassie trips now the terminal is in Geelong. Arthurs Seat is a cracking ride both on the motorbike and the pushie. I've seen many motorbikes run wide at the 15km/h left hairpin at Franklins Lookout... it is tight, and steep, and catches you out if not ready for it! Thanks for another enjoyable video

      @MrAusadventure 3 дні тому

      Oh wow! We have definitely travelled a lot of the same roads! I can remember there being a few crashes on Arthurs Seat back in the day and I imagine it is still quite common. It was a challenging road as a learner when I started riding. Thanks for watching again, glad you enjoyed the video!

      @@MrAusadventure No doubt ridden many of the same roads in Victoria and Tasmania, but I've never ridden the other states. Prior to doing the Tassie trips had mostly done day rides with the odd two dayer. I'll need to rectify that one day

      Probably a real surprise to everyone that I like waterfalls! We had to play tourist because that's what we were and it was good to experience those parts of Bali, but next time I'd like to get well outside that tourist area and experience the quieter areas for sure. It's hard to believe that motorcycles last that long these days. When I was young I seldom saw a bike get 20'000 miles and they were usually crap by then. I quit riding in 2002. I Hhad a wreck and scared my Mom bad so I sold my old Honda Magna 750. I have a lot of friends that call themselves bikers. That usually consists of someone with a Harley that rides it from bar to bar.. I never got into that. I'm not far from the mountains in North Carolina and I've made many trips to the mountains and stayed for days at a time. I'm coming across a good sum of money soon and I've been looking at the V Storms. If I can get my 5'7" frame on one without dropping it it will be on then! I quit drinking and I was only a social Drinker at that so I don't have much of a social life anymore. I'm 53 years old and I still do some solo backpacking but one of these days Sasquatch is going to get tired of me encroaching on this territory. The best logical thing for me to do is go buy a nice Yamaha V-Strom 650 granted I can get my leg over the thing. I've never heard anyone talk about the possibilities of lowering one but I'll do what I have to do. My money will be here within the week and I'm fairly excited. It been two years since I quit going to bars and I'm looking forward to some Adventure that does not require alcohol to tolerate the people that I'm around. I'm going to ride some of this weight off of me too. The last time I had a on-road off-road bike was back in 99. I had a Honda XR250L. I weighed 180 lb when I bought that bike. I was 28 years old. I dropped from 180 to 155 in 2 months just riding the wheels off of that bike. I never stopped to eat and I road a few Motocross tracks. That'll work you! I'm only about 4 hours from the North Carolina Beach. Maybe I'll start making trips there if I can keep all the Hooligans from messing with my bike. It gets crazy all up and down the North Carolina coast at certain times of the year. I've seen people put bikes up to flagpoles and them up in the air and that was 30 years ago. Their crazier now than they were then. On second thought maybe I'll just keep my direction towards the mountains unless I can find a place to lock a motorcycle up at the beach. Either way I'm ready to ride and I mean something fierce. It has been too long. Your video has sold me on the V-Strom. I always heard they were the best and and now I know. Great video!

    • @MrAusadventure
      @MrAusadventure 8 днів тому

      You can't go wrong with the Strom! You can definitely lower them and also modify the seat to get closer to the ground without affecting the performance too much. They can be a top heavy bike but once you get used to the feeling of that, it's fine. They do weigh a lot so I doubt anyone would get one up a flagpole! HaHa! Good luck with it all, I'm sure you'll have plenty of awesome adventures. Thanks for watching and your comment.

    I did laugh when you were expecting a flat ride in the mountains 🤣 That was technical as all hell mate! Was this what spurred you into getting the DRZ, or did you already have it then? That downhill was insane! What a great playground the volcanic gravel makes - and Sharon's a natural!! She's got guts that girl! You guys find amazing things to do - I watched the quad one too, but I always watch your vids on the big screen and don;t always get back to the computer to comment. Great stuff mate!

    • @MrAusadventure
      @MrAusadventure 16 днів тому

      The original route we were supposed to do would have been more flat, more river crossings and beach riding etc but still hilly I imagine. I was glad we did this though as it was awesome fun. I'd already had the DRZ for 18 months by this point! 🤣 Yeah Sharon did really well once she got the feel for it. She picked it up quickly.

    • @MrAusadventure
      @MrAusadventure 17 днів тому

      Yeah, it was steeper than it looks on camera as usual. You could tell how steep it was when I dropped the bike and the rocks were rolling downhill! Steep and incredibly soft! There's no way I'd want to take a heavier bike up it! 🤣

    My 650 had just 2300km on the clock when I got it in 2009. It's now got 165,000km on it and counting. Zero problems apart from the usual consumables. Chains, sprockets, tyres, brake pads, oil changes and the like. I recently pulled the starter motor out to investigate sluggish starting. The brushes were reaching their use-by date. I cleaned things up and reinstalled it with a great result and have now ordered new brush set. Very easy to work on too, and it only took 15 minutes to sort out. Like you, I intended to use it for the big lap, but that just hasn't happened for various reasons. I added a used 2014 dl1000 to my collection about 2 years ago. Even though that's an awesome machine, I kept the trusty 650 as it still goes great, and still ride it as often as I can. It's like an old friend I just love spending time with. A lot of my riding is on dirt roads, living as I do between a national park and a national highway. I often encounter tourists on their way through mounted on all manner of bikes. A lot of Ewan/Charlie copycats complete with the obligatory GS with an internet of farkles. Knobby tyres that have never left the tarmac, go pros, and intercom systems. It's hilarious to see them looking down their noses at the "peasant" on his dirty poverty pack Suzuki when I invite then on a guided tour of the local points of interest. I know I'm having way more fun than them. I suspect they are worried that, while they look like they can take on anything, in reality they are worried the plucky little strom will embarrass them with it's capabilities haha. No plans to pension it off any time soon. Happy trails

    • @MrAusadventure
      @MrAusadventure 22 дні тому

      That's so awesome! Have you had to do the valve clearances? I can definitely relate to it being an old friend that I love spending time with. I just feel so at home on it. Even though I get to ride bikes all day at work, I still love to throw my leg over the Strom for the short ride home. They certainly are an underrated bike. My scratched up old Strom doesn't get much attention from the farkled up shiny GS brigade either. HaHa! 130,000km now and still going strong, next trip coming up soon!

    Gorgeous country we live in and yes I've travelled all these roads too. Time is often an issue of course but as my old Scots grannie used to say 'if I had my druthers, I'd druther not' do the motorways. Tablelands Way from Goulburn through Taralga, Oberon and on through Kandos Denman and Muswellbrook is a great alternative to going through Sydney.

    • @MrAusadventure
      @MrAusadventure 22 дні тому

      Yeah, I don't like the motorway if I can help it, but I have done a lot of the great riding roads bypassing Sydney before on other trips. I've done Bylong Valley, down to Bathurst and then to Goulburn via Crookwell, but have also gone via Oberon as well. Both ways are awesome!

I mentioned that Cranky always shares his route with his wife and checks in before and after riding more remote dirt tracks. I'm heading away on a trip later in the year and I'm thinking about getting a garmin inreach before the trip just in case I get tempted to venture down side roads in the outback.

    Thank you for the video mate. Been going strong staying off in 3 month periods but relapsed again the last few days. Caffeine makes this world a place full of blown egos and stress. It is not the way we should live. It makes it painful to see when people in your closest circle accept you more when you are caffeinated. It sure helps socialize with people, but if everyone wasn‘t so caffeinated, we would also accept each other more uncaffeinated. The social aspect is what worries me the most, because in my own experience people dont like me uncaffeinated. When I‘m uncaffeinated I feel at peace, free from stress which leads me to shut the fuck up more. But in this world full of caffeinated people where constant conversations are demanded, it is hard to find the home you belong to. Hope somebody can relate to this

Hopefully gutter guard isn’t like Maccas. Gained enormous price inflation over the past 10 years! I can only buy after market guards for the wr. And they cost an absolute fortune. Can't believe I wasn't aware of Battery Park! We often stay at the casino on our Tassie rides and I have wandered around to Blinking Billy lighthouse which is literally just the other side of the road from the park.... I'd better check it out next time. Incidentally the casino used to have a laundry but after renovations sometime in 2023 they no longer have one... that was a pain as we all packed clothes based on being able to wash there, given it was the half-way point of our trip. Your comment about the Mayfair having one made me think of that. I also did a LOL when you mentioned the movie "Stone". That movie was introduced to me on our first night of our first Tassie motorbike trip when we were staying at Scamander... happy memories and thanks for resurfacing them.

    Hmmmmm..............tyres........where will I begin? I am a v strom addict, owning a 650 for 15 years and 161,000 km, and more recently a dl1000 as well. So I have been through a lot of rubber in my time. Don't buy cheap tyres is my advice. I ride a lot of open road km, and that kills any tyre in a hurry. But if you buy cheap to offset this problem, eventually you will find a corner or traffic incident that reqires maximum perfomance with no warning. A worn quality tyre is preferable to a less worn cheapie. Front tyres usually last me two backs due to the open road long distances. I use Metzler tourance next2 on my 1000, with exceptional grip on all surfaces including dirt, and they wear pretty well too. Not cheap, but worth every cent in my opinion.

    • @MrAusadventure
      @MrAusadventure Місяць тому

      The Tourance are an awesome tyre. I've never worried about price when choosing tyres, always choosing the tyre that suits me the best at the time. I have Motoz Tractionator on my Strom at the moment but only because at the time post Covid, I couldn't get my preferred tyre which is the Mitas E07. I find them to be the tyre that suits my needs the best. It was on this trip that I changed from the Tourance to the E07.

    Don't know why but I always find it cool when I see my local roads in a video like this. I live right at the base of the Dandenongs and cycle up there around twice a week. Also pretty much every motorbike ride I do involves going up Mountain Hwy as well. Good to see the young lady at the boarding booth 14:46. I remember her from our Tassie trip and she was lovely. A smiling cheerful person like that is a great way to start your adventure. When you parked your bike on the ferry the words "side stand, first gear, and no steering lock" entered my head.

I had a smile when I was editing the video as I remembered that lady at the booth to the ferry as well. Such a warm friendly greeting!
